.
Of course I was annoyed. Annoyed that I had to get up and go to the store and annoyed that we are close to high school and having this issue.
.
It’s ok to be annoyed. Being intentional about our response in these situations though can make or break your night and set the tone for your relationship with your daughter.
.
I got up and went to get her supplies without any yelling or lecturing. We agreed to after school check-ins where we would go over her assignments and make sure they were in her calendar so she could build skills for the future to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
.
This is how I intentionally handle when my daughters make mistakes. Because of this, she was not afraid to tell me she had made a mistake and even felt safe to ask me to help her.
.
We ended up having a nice evening together still while cutting out letters for a trifold!

It was a beautiful week in our house. Perfect? No It was a beautiful week in our house. Perfect? No. But we had many opportunities to be together and practice intentionality in our family. Here are a few ways we were intentional in our relationships.

🍗 We had one of the first nice days of Spring so we went to our favorite patio for dinner.

🍷 My husband and I had not been on a date in too long so we took off to our favorite winery for some alone time.

🍬 The girls were dying to make the viral “candy salad” so they all pitched in to make their own version.

🔥 My husband opened the bonfire pit for the season and we spent an hour + singing and laughing by the fire with our girls and their best friends.

🏊🏻 My youngest couldn’t pass up an opportunity to hop in the freezing pool to end our opening night. Before, the mess would have given me anxiety, but trying to let go gave her and her friends a good laugh and a memory together.

🌕
To me, intentional parenting is all about making memories with my girls. Was this Eclipse Party Instagram worthy? Absolutely not. No decorations, no goodie bags, and minimal food, but definitely a surprise for them and their friends that elevated an afternoon to one they will remember.

I’m here to tell you, intentional parenting doesn’t have to be hard, timely, or costly. It doesn’t have to mimic Pinterest or be Instagram worthy to create lasting memories. It just has to be from the heart.

5 Memorable Mother Daughter Summer Activities

Are you looking for memorable summer activities for mothers and daughters? Check out these easy ideas that will not only create lasting memories but are tons of fun!

5 Memorable Mother Daughter Summer Activities

It’s not always easy to convince your teenage daughter to hang out with you, but I’m convinced that with a little thought and planning, you can plan some activities that you’ll both love!

Get Moving!

There are so many ways you and your daughter can be active together this summer. Head to a park for a hike or play a sport with them even if you stink at it! You’ll have fun laughing at each other. Go for a walk or ride bikes in your neighborhood and talk or listen to music with her. If you live in a larger town, rent some scooters and explore your downtown area. Exercise is one of the most beneficial ways to boost mood and energy, so it is the perfect way to connect with your daughter!

Explore Your Area!

Act like a tourist in your own town! Even small towns have rich history that is often missed by the people who live there. Go explore places you’ve never been or haven’t been in a while. For example, tour a historic home, take a mural tour, or go on a scavenger hunt. It is likely that a quick google search of your own town will lead to events right in your “backyard” that you didn’t even know existed. Look at your town as if you were a tourist coming to visit and see where you and your daughter can go explore.

Get Wet!

Obviously, summer is the perfect time to partake in some water activities with your daughter. Go to a water park, the beach, or a local aquatic center with her. Don’t just take her and let her swim while you relax by the pool. Participate with her. Go down the slides, put on the goggles and swim with her, judge her jumps, and experience the day with her. If all else fails, set up a slip-n-slide in your back yard or launch a surprise water balloon attack. You’d be surprised how much fun you can have.

Eat Something Cold!

Stop for the ice cream and have some with your daughter! It doesn’t have to just be ice cream though. Check out a new Italian Ice stand or have virgin daiquiris on a patio. Whatever you do, make it special. Surprise her by telling her to get dressed and hop in the car…you’re going for ice cream!

Take a Trip Together!

While a vacation would certainly fall into this category, it doesn’t have to be a full-fledge vacation. Take a day trip with your daughter. See what amazing things your area has to offer. Go on the tour, or hiking trip, or zip lines, or amusement park that you’ve been talking about doing but never get around to doing so. You could even experience things like a zoo or aquarium. It is a whole different experience with teenagers but still just as fun and rewarding.

Mother daughter summer activities don’t have to be elaborate or expensive. They just have to show your daughter that you’re thinking of her and that the effort and heart for her are there.
