.
Of course I was annoyed. Annoyed that I had to get up and go to the store and annoyed that we are close to high school and having this issue.
.
It’s ok to be annoyed. Being intentional about our response in these situations though can make or break your night and set the tone for your relationship with your daughter.
.
I got up and went to get her supplies without any yelling or lecturing. We agreed to after school check-ins where we would go over her assignments and make sure they were in her calendar so she could build skills for the future to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
.
This is how I intentionally handle when my daughters make mistakes. Because of this, she was not afraid to tell me she had made a mistake and even felt safe to ask me to help her.
.
We ended up having a nice evening together still while cutting out letters for a trifold!

It was a beautiful week in our house. Perfect? No It was a beautiful week in our house. Perfect? No. But we had many opportunities to be together and practice intentionality in our family. Here are a few ways we were intentional in our relationships.

šŸ— We had one of the first nice days of Spring so we went to our favorite patio for dinner.

šŸ· My husband and I had not been on a date in too long so we took off to our favorite winery for some alone time.

šŸ¬ The girls were dying to make the viral ā€œcandy saladā€ so they all pitched in to make their own version.

šŸ”„ My husband opened the bonfire pit for the season and we spent an hour + singing and laughing by the fire with our girls and their best friends.

šŸŠšŸ» My youngest couldn’t pass up an opportunity to hop in the freezing pool to end our opening night. Before, the mess would have given me anxiety, but trying to let go gave her and her friends a good laugh and a memory together.

25 minutes and $25 is all it took to make the day 25 minutes and $25 is all it took to make the day of the eclipse a day my girls would truly remember.

To me, intentional parenting is all about making memories with my girls. Was this Eclipse Party Instagram worthy? Absolutely not. No decorations, no goodie bags, and minimal food, but definitely a surprise for them and their friends that elevated an afternoon to one they will remember.

I’m here to tell you, intentional parenting doesn’t have to be hard, timely, or costly. It doesn’t have to mimic Pinterest or be Instagram worthy to create lasting memories. It just has to be from the heart.

I look forward to these early volleyball mornings though no matter how little sleep I get because of them. I haven’t always, but since I’ve started this intentional parenting journey, I really look forward to opportunities to cherish these volleyball weekends together.

Every volleyball weekend has turned into a fun girls weekend getaway where we

About Elle

hey momma!

If you’re a busy mom of teenage girls just trying to savor the time you have left with them under your roof, this corner of the internet is for you!

Here, we focus on intentional parenting, building trust and connections with our daughters, and our faith along the way. We talk about challenges and solutions that are specific to pre-teen and teen girls.

I am the proud momma of two art and volleyball-loving teen girls. I embarked on an intentional parenting journey with them two years ago and since then, I have seen improvements in not only their attitudes but my relationship with them. I vowed to slow down time and enjoy every second I have with them. Currently my goal is to savor the time before they leave my house, but intentional parenting is a journey I plan to adopt into their adult years as well.
